Case Study - Ginkgo BIoworks

Ginkgo Bioworks is the world’s leading synthetic biology company, whose tech stack enables faster development, optimized performance, and lower costs for pharmaceuticals, agriculture, industrials, ingredients, and beyond.

We collaborate with them on a weekly video production cycle. Each week a complete five- to eight-minute video is written, recorded, and edited. The final product includes full animations and immersive sound design.

These videos are then published through paid channels on LinkedIn as well as being sent out to a list of subscribers. Through this approach, we deliver concrete leads for an order of magnitude less cost than in-person sales.

We came to Viaduct with a tough communication problem: how can we make a high-tech B2B service product easy to understand? At Ginkgo Bioworks, we offer biotechnology R&D as a service, designing DNA and generating laboratory data for customers in diverse industries from pharma to farming. Our audience is both busy and sophisticated, so marketing to them has to be direct, engaging and information-rich.

The Viaduct team delivered a beautiful and effective video marketing campaign. For us, the right format was a series of short videos presenting our technology and case studies of successful customer projects. The videos paired a subject-matter expert from our team with beautiful graphics, animations and sound design from the production team at Viaduct. It was so much fun to watch our stories come alive in Viaduct’s hands!

By the numbers, we were very satisfied with the results. High quality videos from Viaduct routinely had more than twice the marketing engagement of less polished content like plain images or basic webinar recordings. The content hit home with a hard-to-reach audience, attracting clicks and conversions from senior executives and other decision makers in the industries we serve.

Viaduct’s edge is the intelligence of their team and the work they put in to understand our business. Beautiful and expertly produced video, by itself, would not have been enough to break through to our audience. Viaduct helped us tell stories that were true to the complex subject matter, conveyed the challenge and seriousness of our business, related to our customer’s problems and, on top of all that, were also a delight to watch. We’re so happy to have worked with Viaduct and would recommend them for any business looking to create content that is direct, engaging and information-rich.
